Is Anxiety Limiting Your Quality Of Life?

Woman that looks not happy

Are fear and worry robbing you of the willingness to go on new adventures, meet new people, or leave your comfort zone? Do you:

  • find it difficult to relax or let your guard down?

  • ruminate on negative, intrusive, or catastrophic thoughts?

  • feel irritable, restless, or generally discontent?

Perhaps a deep sense of impending doom or self-doubt is preventing you from taking risks and reaching your educational or professional potential.

Or maybe you see yourself in a negative light, making it hard to truly connect with others, and you’re wondering if anxiety therapy can help you feel more comfortable in your own skin.

Anxiety Can Manifest In Ways Other Than Worry

For instance, you may be experiencing:

  • feelings of low self-worth, poor self-esteem, or relationship conflict

  • physical tension or difficulty sleeping and concentrating

  • gastrointestinal issues, headaches, sweating, high blood pressure

  • panic attacks, OCD, PSTD, social anxiety, or specific phobias

The truth is anxiety can limit your quality of your life—but healing, feeling calmer, and learning how to take risks is possible through therapy. Whatever you are going through, our caring anxiety therapists at Integral Psychological Services are here to help you restore a sense of safety, peace, and self-confidence in your life.

Anxiety Is An Extremely Prevalent Mental Health Issue

Most people experience some kind of anxiety in their life. After all, it’s a natural part of who we are. However, when anxiety becomes a ruling factor in how we think and feel and interact with others, it can have a powerful impact on nearly every aspect of life. Unfortunately, an estimated 40 million adults are living with some form of anxiety disorder.*

Many stressors and precipitating factors can contribute to anxiety:

  • finances, relationships, careers, or social media

  • loneliness, lack of community and emotional support network

  • genetics, medical problems, personality, brain chemistry

  • trauma, childhood abuse/neglect, substance/alcohol use

Although social anxiety, panic attacks, OCD, and PTSD are among the most prevalent disorders in the world, many people are reluctant to seek treatment. They either feel weak, ashamed, guilty, or just too overwhelmed by anxiety to even consider counseling.

However, working with a therapist offers you the tools and support for managing symptoms so you can navigate distress, realize your potential, and maybe even utilize anxiety to your benefit.

Anxiety Therapy Is A Way To Reconnect To Life

Many people with anxiety simply want to live fully and be a better person—a better partner, friend, and parent. So therapy gives you a safe, supportive space where you can work through anxiety and what’s holding you back from being that person. It offers you insight into the source of your distress while equipping you with tools for managing symptoms and fundamentally improving your mindset.

To get started, one of our counselors will first meet with you online or in person to get some basic information about your experiences with anxiety. We can talk about when it became an issue, how you’re currently coping with symptoms, and how it’s affecting your career, relationships, or personal life. We can also talk about your goals for anxiety counseling and what success would look like to you.

In subsequent sessions, we may explore aspects of your background, including your family history, childhood, past experiences, or any trauma that may be contributing to your situation. As we gain insight, we’ll offer you evidence-based tools to help you relax, be more engaged in the moment, and feel in control of your emotions—and your life.

Some Of The Treatment Options Available For Anxiety Counseling

Everyone’s experience with anxiety can be different, so it’s important that we develop a treatment plan that’s unique to each individual. To do that, we use a number of research-driven modalities that identify and target the root of the problem while offering strategies for achieving some immediate relief.

  • CBT or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for anxiety examines the intrinsic link between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors—and how positive shifts in one area can improve others.

  • ACT or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy gives clients the strength to observe, sit with, and accept certain thoughts and emotions rather than fighting them.

  • DBT for anxiety, a branch of Dialectical Behavior Therapy, focuses on cultivating distress tolerance, core mindfulness, emotional regulation, and interpersonal skills.

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is an effective, non-invasive treatment option for addressing severe anxiety, panic attack disorder, social anxiety, and PTSD.

We also draw from Interpersonal Therapy, humanistic principles, psychodynamic theory, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and other treatment methods to create a dynamic approach to overcoming anxiety.

At Integral Psychological Services, we believe that you deserve to live without the specter of constant worry holding you back and weighing you down. You deserve to go on adventures and have meaningful relationships. You deserve to relax, feel safe, and finally start living fully—and our anxiety disorder specialists want to help you make those things a reality.

Perhaps You Have Questions Or Concerns About Therapy For Anxiety…

What if my anxiety never goes away?

Anxiety is an integral part of the human condition that can actually be beneficial, so it’s not something we want to eliminate. Rather, we want to help you change what can be changed while teaching you how to live alongside anxiety and even use it to your advantage when possible.

That said, anxiety responds very well to treatment, so it is possible to live a fulfilling life where you are the one in control—and constant fear and worry no longer rule you.

What if I can't open up to my therapist?

As anxiety specialists, we understand how hard it can be to open up, which is why we’ll strive to make you feel as comfortable and in control of the process as possible. If a subject is too intense or painful, we can find other ways around the issue.

EMDR therapy, for instance, is extremely effective yet often requires minimal exploration for addressing anxiety—and even trauma.  Whatever your needs, we’ll be supportive, listen, and be there for you if and when you feel comfortable truly opening up.

What if anxiety counseling doesn't help me?

Part of that fear is probably rooted in anxiety, but the truth is that therapy really can make a difference in how you feel, live, and overcome problems. Having a place to bring your pain and discuss complex thoughts and emotions can be immensely beneficial.

So if you are busting at the seams with stress and worry like so many people, working with an anxiety therapist truly can give you tools, insight, and support for changing how you live.
